Mission Statement

The mission of the Darien Junior Sailing Program is to provide a safe, fun and empowering learning environment in which to develop the skills required for sailing; to promote personal growth and independence within the sport, to achieve proficient levels in boat handling and maintenance, and to develop decision making skills, while encouraging sportsmanship, leadership and team work in rigging, launching, and sailing together on the Long Island Sound.

Important Change to Session 1 Dates

It seems that Spring has finally sprung! With the really cold and stormy weather behind us, there should be no more snow days to make up at the end of the school year. With that said, DJST is shifting the dates of the first two weeks of Session 1 due to the school year-end extension for Darien and other schools/colleges where our instructors attend.

The first day of Session 1 will now start on Wednesday, June 26th.

The first week of Session 1 will run from Wednesday, June 26th - Saturday, June 29th.

The second week of Session 1 will run from Monday, July 1st - Saturday, July 6th (not Thursday, July 4th).

Parent On Duty
DJST is a tremendously successful volunteer-driven organization thanks in large part to the involvement and enthusiasm of the parents. Each family is required to volunteer in at least one aspect of the program, including participation as the Parent-on-Duty during a session in which your sailor is registered. This important position is the on-land contact for all emergencies. Sign-up for the Parent-on-Duty begins at the DJST Parents' Meeting in late May and will be requested throughout the season as needed.
